Far Out Faroes 2025
In October, Wayne Simpson, Kris Andres and I had the pleasure of guiding an adventurous group of Offbeat photographers through the Faroe Islands. This remote North Atlantic archipelago, set between Iceland and Scotland, is known for its dramatic cliffs, misty fjords, and rolling green landscapes dotted with turf-roofed houses. In short, it’s a photographer’s paradise.
On this trip, we experienced every kind of weather imaginable, from bright sunshine to hurricane-force winds, giving participants a true taste of the Faroes in all their wild variety.
After spending our first night in the capital city of Tórshavn, we settled into the picturesque village of Gjógv for the rest of the trip. Each day we explored new locations, with the drives often as stunning as the destinations themselves, especially when rain turned the hillsides into cascading waterfalls.
Participants photographed waterfalls plunging into the ocean, everyday details of Faroese life, dramatic skies and landscapes, and of course, sheep…so many sheep! When the winds picked up, we headed straight for the shoreline to capture the giant waves rolling in. Evenings were spent enjoying delicious home-cooked dinners (and unforgettable desserts) prepared by our wonderful hosts.
Each time I visit this magical place, I fall in love with it a little bit more. Here’s a selection of images from the trip.
